Jim Cumbee

Jim Cumbee is President of Tennessee Valley Group in Nashville TN. Jim’s company, formed in 2008, is the only lawyer-led business intermediary in the state of Tennessee. He is recognized by the Tennessee Supreme Court as a listed General Civil Mediator.

Jim has an MBA from Harvard Business School and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Missouri in Kansas City School of Law. He is a 1975 graduate of Westminster College, with a B.A. in American History.

Jim is a prolific writer and thought leader. His writing expands a wide arc, from an original research thesis at the Truman Presidential Library in Independence Missouri, to the UMKC Law Review to his recently published book, “Home Run, A Pros’s Guide to Selling a Business, The Seven Principles of Irresistibility.” (Advantage Media, 2018).

Jim has a diverse and successful career first staring as Assistant Attorney General in the State of Missouri to Vice President of Strategy and Administration for Disney Development Company (a division of the Walt Disney Company) to President of Non-Broadcast Media for Salem Communications (SALM: Nasdaq). Jim is also a very successful entrepreneur, having acquired three companies in bankruptcy and after a four-year turnaround, selling the integrated business to a publicly-traded company.

Jim’s work as a business intermediary is focused in and around the Nashville TN area. He has represented clients in technology, healthcare, manufacturing and business services. His work as a solo practitioner allows him to get deeply involved with three to five clients at year.
